About Us
Company History
David Haig (owner) is a member of the Washtenaw County Home Builder’s Association and National Home Builder’s Association. He is on the board of directors for the Remodelor’s Council and is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist. David has been building in Ann Arbor for more than 20 years.
Building Background: David Haig is the third generation of a contracting family and is a Licensed Michigan Builder. The family building tradition started with his grandfather Owen Haig Sr. who was a contractor in Chicago. He passed his knowledge on to Owen Haig Jr by apprenticing him with each of the building trades including: plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc. David grew up learning the very same trades as well. His diverse training helps every aspect of his projects.
We do very little advertising. Word of mouth and happy customers are what we like best. The most common responses we hear from customers is that they love our guys who work in their homes every day and that our projects look so nice that the rest of the home needs something after we’re done. We depend on happy customers.

My experience with David Haig and his crew was superb. Yes you read correctly, I’m talking about a licensed builder and I used the word superb. It seems like an oxymoron doesn’t it?
There are a couple of qualities that stood out in the beginning and I wondered, for a moment, if this guy was too good to be true. It’s a happy ending so please read on.
1) He arrived for our first meeting on time and I told him that I wanted bamboo flooring throughout my main floor and my stairs. He just stood there looking at me and shaking his head no. I asked what the issue was and he said, “Frankly, it’s too expensive. I can strip your existing floor and give you the look that you want. You don’t want to spend that much money.” I’m a single girl so this was a HUGE relieve that right off the bat that I wasn’t going to be gouged.
2) He started the renovation on the day he said he would and the job was completed on schedule. Again I cry does this sound like the stereotypical licensed builder? I was married to a superintendent for a commercial construction company so I know all of the lies. I have witnessed first hand the excuses and the projects that were intended to be 10 days long that turned into months.
3) David came in under budget. He worked with me to cut some corners but not lessen the quality of my kitchen.
4) The granite company made a HUGE mistake in measuring my countertop and David went to bat for me and got it fixed, no charge. I was out of town when this occurred and he called me and told me what had happened and simply said, “Don’t worry about it, I’m mad enough for both of us. I’ll get it taken care of.”
In conclusion, David Haig is a man of his word. He is a licensed builder with integrity. I know, it’s hard to believe but it’s true.

To Whom It May Concern:
We bought a home in Burns Park in Ann Arbor approximately two years ago, and we regularly contract David Haig for household projects ranging from the small to the large. We have always been very satisfied with the results. We perceive a direct relationship between cost and correctly completing the job: we prefer the job to be done right the first time to keep our costs inline, thus we choose David.
The projects have included refinishing floors, replacing and updating plumbing, electrical wiring, woodworking, hanging new doors and windows and myriad other things. His estimates are truthful, accurate and much appreciated, but more importantly he is knowledgeable, friendly, tireless and optimistic. We are always confident about results when David is working on a project with us.
We plan to continue to work with him on future projects. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Sincerely yours,
James A. Simpson

Here are a series of emails from the first contact to the finished job from a customer who was selling his house. Sorry it’s kind of long but, it gives you a good idea of how things go with our customers from start to finish.

Message: Dave,
Jay Pekala of Surovell Realtors recommended I contact you as I am interested in adding a deck to my house in Dexter. The house is for sale since I am presently in North Carolina, and while I do have a renter, I feel the addition of a deck will make it more appealing to a buyer.
The address is 401 Cambridge Drive.
I am requesting a price estimate to include all the permit applications, foundations, wood deck, materials and labor. The lot is small which will restrict the size of the deck such that it would be in the 12 ft x 12ft size range.
Looking forward to hearing form you.

Dave,
Thank you for your quick response.
I like the 12 × 18 deck option. I agree with you that a 12 × 12 would be frustratingly small. The price is a bit higher than I had hoped but I need a selling point and the larger deck fits the bill.
I am awaiting another estimate and I will make a decision as soon as I receive the bid. I hope to make a decision by Friday Feb 8.
Thanks you again for braving the weather to develop this estimate.
Regards,
Keith Statler

Dave,
I am pleased to accept your bid to build my deck at 401 Cambridge Drive in Dexter Crossing!
I will forward you the plot survey done by the county building department in 1999. This may help in finalizing the deck layout. I also need to submit my improvement to the Homeowners Association. I want to do that as soon as we decide on the deck dimensions.
I hope to be in Dexter in late February or early March and would like to meet at that time to finalize any details. What is your schedule during that time? I would also like to know the terms of our contract and payment dates and amounts.
Please contact me by phone or email to confirm our meeting and to discuss any details.
Regards,
Keith Statler

Dave,
I initialed the changes, signifying my approval.
Will the deck lumber need to be sealed with UV protection after construction or later in the summer?
I hope we got approval from the Village on Monday.
Thanks for your efforts.

I will send you a certified check. Which address should I send it to?
Thanks again for your exemplary work!

Dave,
I have sold my house at 401 Cambridge Drive and I am convinced your deck played an instrumental part in having it selected by the buyers. I was there last weekend and was totally impressed by your work. It is unfortunate for me that I will not be able to enjoy your fine work. I feel it the best in the neighborhood. My neighbor Jim Carson who is with the Village Council was very much impressed by the workmanship, esthetics and quality.
Thank you again and if I can provide any testimonials, please contact me.
